Canada / Malaysia Aboriginal Applied Arts
A bi-lateral presentation of applied arts, design and craft from across Canada and Malaysia explores similarities and differences in the creation of contemporary applied arts from aboriginal communities. A wide range of objects will be on display : some hand-made, others mass-produced Some products are inspired by traditional patterns, colours, forms and materials. Other products fuse exotic and local influences reflecting new ideas, forms, functions and production processes

March 12 – March 23
Disaster and Reconstruction in Japan
Photographic exhibition documenting the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in 2011, and the rebuilding that has taken in place since that time. Presented by the Japanese Consulate to mark the one year anniversary of the event.

March 26– April 4
Canstruction
Canstruction is a non-profit organization that holds annual design and build competitions across North America, featuring fantastic, giant sized sculptures made entirely out of canned food. The Pendulum Gallery is Vancouver's main exhibition venue this year, displaying 8-10 of the sculptures and serving as the information centre for the event. At the close of the exhibition, all of the canned food used in the sculptures is donated to the Vancouver Food Bank.

April 23 – May 12
Larry Louie
Dr. Larry Louie is an international award-winning photographer and Edmonton optometrist who has undertaken a number of special visual arts projects in conjunction with Seva (a Sanskrit word meaning service) to raise awareness of the issue of treatable blindness throughout the developing world.

May 28 – June 9
VCC – Design Exhibition
Graduate Exhibition form the Digital Graphic Design Program at Vancouver Community College. Works range from abstract explorations of form and space to real-world commercial design, and will emphasize process as well as finished product.

June 11 – June 23
Roman Duranovic
Duranovic, one of the most celebrated artists in Montenegro, produces large scale, brilliantly colourful paintings which utilize a series of figurative archetypes to explore the underpinnings of social conventions. This exhibition is the centre-piece for a week long series of cultural events sponsored by the Consulate of Montenegro.

Defining Moments
Nation-wide art event that includes workshops, art competitions and exhibitions focusing on our Canadian Identity.

Sept 10 –Sept 22
Mrs. Drysdale’s Circus
Saltspring Island Artists Anna Gustafson and Paul Burke present an installation of  painted wood sculptures and canvas paintings that evoke a magical circus performed by toy animals.

Sept 24 – Oct 6
Arts Umbrella Splash 2012
Annual exhibit and auction includes painting, sculpture and craft from the city's top artists.

Oct 8 – Oct 20
Hope in Shadows
Community-based photography project utilizing disposable cameras. Presented by the Pivot Legal Society and held in conjunction with the launch of the Hope in Shadows calendar.

Nov 5 – Dec 2
Pierre Gauvreau Art as a Liberating Force
Montreal painter Gauvreau (b. 1922 d. 2011) was a disciple of Paul-Emile Bourduas and a key participant in the Quebec-based avant-garde Automatistes movement of c. 1940. This exhibition presents works produced over the last 15 years and is being held in conjunction with a simultaneous show at Vancouver's Baron Gallery.
