The Lava Group: Furniture Designer Builders
FORMED IN 1995, the Lava Group is a collaboration of some of the most innovative designer builders in BC. As a group, we take on all the tasks of a gallery: we promote, attract sponsors, create displays, and choose our own locations. In the past, public galleries have been an ideal setting for our shows as they are more readily accessible to the general public.
The Lava Group theme is contemporary furniture designed and built by its members. We build with wood, metal, glass and salvaged materials. Due to the diverse backgrounds and influences that inspire each of our members, the styles are varied. These shows allow us to experiment with new furniture designs and functional art in a public forum. Each member rarely sees another's work until the show; unlike a juried exhibit, we rely on each individual's reputation as a fine builder.
Since its conception, the Lava Group has attracted some very talented members and developed an ever-increasing public awareness and following.
Our LAVA 2000 show has an added new feature. In conjunction with the show, on Thursday and Friday evenings each member will be giving a talk and slide presentation on various subjects and ideas.
This Fall show promises to be an exciting event and we look forward to seeing you.

An Uninhibited Exhibition Celebrating Christmas Decorations From Just About Anywhere
A modern interactive museum-style exhibition featuring Christmas and New Year Holiday decoration artifacts from across the globe. A perfect holiday exhibition experience for all the family, the exhibition will feature original Victorian greeting cards and ornaments, one-of-a-kind crêche displays from Cameroon, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, and Naples, the West Bank, Bangladesh, Guatemala, and beyond as well as a 1950's Canadian Christmas tree complete with authentic toy train.
If you would like to see priceless decorations from cultures around the world celebrating the break from the Winter to the promise of Spring, come to the exhibition that will make you smile.
The Pendulum Gallery has been the site of many cultural and spiritual celebrations. From Tibetan mandalas, bicycle courier artists' works, or the 50th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China Exhibition to exhibitions about native elders, we strive to fulfill a diverse mandate that reflects our diversely imaginative population. We are celebrating with this exhibition the mostly-European origins of Christmas by reflecting around Winter Celebrations around the World and how they have effected this important social, economic and religious holiday. We will focus as well on New Year celebration in the Roman Calendar, particularly since many believe that the new millennium begins at the stroke of midnight 20001.
